BCA Committees

We need volunteers! If you have a few hours to spare per month, contact us to be part of a Civic Association committee.


House Tour Committee: Dr. Bertha Holliday, Chair

The House Tour Committee coordinates Bloomingdale's biennial House Tour & Art show.


Public Safety Committee:  Sharon Burns, Chair

The Public Safety Committee builds and maintains relationships with the Metropolitan Police Department, the Howard University Police and other relevant agencies/entities to promote a safe Bloomingdale.  The committee organizes monthly safety walks for Bloomingdale and combined Bloomingdale-LeDroit Park monthly walks.


Membership Committee: CHAIR VACANT

The Membership Committee helps to recruit and retain members. Volunteers help to distribute membership information at Civic Association events like happy hours and community activities, and by emailing or hand-delivering membership and renewal information to community residents.


Beautification Committee: Jean Deverines, Chair

The Beautification Committee focuses on issues of maintenance and beautification throughout the neighborhood and coordinates the annual Bloomingdale Beautification Day.


Scholarship Committee: CHAIR VACANT

The Scholarship Committee selects candidates for two scholarships paid to Bloomingdale residents either preparing to attend college or already in college.


Historic Preservation Committee: Serita Sanders, Chair

The Historic Preservation Committee focuses on organizing the community in support of historic designation for Bloomingdale.


Communications Committee: CHAIR VACANT

The Communications Committee focuses on communicating with the neighborhood along with general maintenance of the BCA website.


Economic Development Committee: CHAIR VACANT

The Economic Development Committee focuses on sustainable development of the neighborhood and agreements with new businesses.


Fun and Fit Committee: Charlie Cummings, Chair

With an inclusive spirit, the Bloomingdale Fun and Fit Committee connects the city’s resources and Bloomingdale residents’ interests to make Bloomingdale the most fun, fit, and friendly neighborhood in Washington, D.C.

The Committee partners with local businesses, coaches, and instructors to plan a healthy living event each month that brings together neighbors from all backgrounds to have fun and get to know each other.
