The Bloomingdale Civic Association is always looking for neighbors to take an active role in our activities.

2022 SCHOLARSHIP AWARD

Two awards ($1,500 each) are available for high school students accepted to an accredited college, university, or vocational-technical school for the Fall 2022 semester. Scholarship awards are based on meeting the requirements listed below. 

Application Deadline: April 29, 2022

Applicants Notified: May 10, 2022

Awards Presented: June 20, 2022  (Bloomingdale Civic Association Meeting)

Eligibility Requirements: 

  • Reside within the District-recognized boundaries of Bloomingdale (see map) and/or be a student of McKinley Technology High School or Dunbar High School.
  • Minimum 2.5 GPA (unweighted) for most recently completed academic year
  • Graduating high school seniors must be accepted to an accredited college, university, or vocational-technical school for the Fall 2022 semester.
  • The scholarship awardee is strongly encouraged to attend the June 20th meeting.

Application Package Requirements: 

  • Completed Application Cover Sheet.
  • Official high school transcript.
  • Two letters of recommendation from either a teacher, counselor, or community service organization. One letter of recommendation must be written by a teacher or counselor.
  • Write a short response (no more than 500 words) for each of the following:
    1. Describe your community service commitment(s) and why you chose this volunteer opportunity or what you find fulfilling about the experience.
    2. Why do you deserve this scholarship?3.Describe your vision for college and long-term personal goals.
  • Scholarships are awarded based on a variety of factors including academic achievement, extracurricular and community activities, and financial need. Applicants are encouraged to address these criteria in their application.
  • As evaluators assess your application and short responses they will look for completeness of the responses in relation to the questions asked and unique information that shows the applicant’s personal experience and vision for the future.
